MIAC Championship Meet Recap NORTHFIELD, Minn.-- A pair of Concordia athletes set MIAC Indoor Championship Meet records and the Cobbers claimed three individual event titles on their way to finishing in a tie for second place at the MIAC Championship Meet held at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. Concordia finished with 97.0 points which tied them with Gustavus for second place. St. Thomas won the meet with 125.7 total team points. The second place finish marks the third consecutive season that the Cobbers have finished in second place at the indoor conference meet. It is also the fifth time in the past ten years that they have claimed the second spot, and eighth time in the past ten championship meets they have finished in the top three. Natalie Hanson had a career meet as she broke the conference record in the mile run by over seven seconds. She finished in a time of 5:05.32 which bettered the old record of 5:12.89 set last year. Hanson also provisionally qualified for the NCAA DIII National Meet in the 800 meters as she finished second in a time of 2:17.80. To add to her amazing meet, she also finished third in the 3000 meters. Hanson also ran the anchor leg of the Cobber distance medley relay team that finished third. To top the meet off, she finished sixth in the pole vault with a height of 10-6.25. That mark is the third best in Cobber women's track and field history. All told she claimed by herself, or as part of a relay team, 33 of the team's 97 total points. Angie Pfeiffer was the other Cobber record breaker. She won the 400 meters in a time of 57.01 which broke a 16-year-old record by .22 seconds. Pfeiffer went on to finish second place in the 200 meters. She ran a 25.91 which broke the old track record at Carleton by .12 seconds. Both of Pfeiffer's finishing times broke school records that she had already owned. Heather Schuster was the third member of the Concordia senior trio that won individual events. She ran a 1:37.69 in the 600 meters to win by almost a full second. Schuster also claimed third place in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:01.29. Schuster also set a pair of school records in the process. Her time in the 600 bettered Molly Luedtke's mark of 1:37.77 set in 1996, and her time in the 1000 meters broke Chris Fredrick's 15-year-old record by almost a full second. Other top Cobber finishers included Leah Hegland who finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles, Amy Ravenhorst who placed fifth in the 600 meters and Rachel Charpentier who claimed sixth place in the 1000 meters. Sarah Sorvaag placed sixth in the weight throw. Danielle Norby racked up eighth-place finishes in the triple jump and pentathlon and fellow field event teammate Abby Scheel who finished fifth in the pentathlon. Concordia will now wait and see which athletes will qualify for the NCAA DIII National Indoor Meet which will take place on Mar. 10-11 at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
