MIAC Championship Meet Recap

ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/13/06)-- It was only fitting that in their last conference meet of their career, Cobber seniors Natalie Hanson and Angie Pfeiffer would go out as champions and Concordia would finish in the top three one more time.

That scenario played out to perfection as Hanson won the 1500 meters, Pfeiffer set a new meet and track record in claiming the 400 meter title and the Cobbers finished third at the MIAC Championship Meet held at the University of St. Thomas.

The third place finish represents the third straight top three finish at a conference indoor or outdoor meet. It is also the seventh time in the last nine championship meets that Concordia has been in the top three.

Hanson and Pfeiffer cap their storied MIAC career as the only two Cobber athletes to capture individual titles. Hanson ran a 4:41.50 in the 1500 meters to win the event by almost two full seconds. Hanson also finished sixth in the 800 meters and seventh in the pole vault.

Pfeiffer, one of the top 400-meter runners in the nation and holder of 13 different school records, blew away the competition in the conference 400 meter title. Her time of 56.26 in the finals, won the event by a full second and set a new meet and stadium record. Pfeiffer eclipsed her old meet record set last year and she bettered the 16-year-old stadium record of 57.22 set by Amy McRell of the University of Iowa set in 1990.

Pfeiffer also went on to finish second in the 200 meters with a national provisionally qualifying time of 25.28.

Pfeiffer then ended her conference career by helping a pair of relay teams post top three finishes. She teamed with Alissa Bilden, Kristina Bruns and Kelly Olson to run a season-best 49.97 and finish third in the 4x100-meter relay. In her final event, Pfeiffer ran the anchor leg for the Concordia 4x400-meter relay team that finished second in a time of 3:57.30.

Another Cobber senior saved her best for the last MIAC meet of her career. Lindsay Kuznia recorded a season-best height of 10-7.0 in the pole vault and finished fifth. Her previous best mark in the event this season was 10-0.0

Concordia freshman Danielle Norby, one of successors to Hanson and Pfeiffer as one of the top athletes on the Cobber squad, posted a trio of top eight finishes in her very first conference meet. Norby finished third in the long jump with a distance of 17-6.25. She also added a pair of seventh-place finishes. She ran a 15.98 in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles and cleared a height of

4-11.50 in the high jump.

Other top five finishers for the Cobbers included Sarah Sorvaag who placed fourth in the discus (119-6), Heather Schuster in the 800 meters (2:16.28) and the 4x800-meter relay team of Schuster, Rachel Charpentier, Amy Ravenhorst and Kendra Bengtson who ran a 9:38.49 and finished fourth.
