Ron Masanz Invite Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/06/06)-- Concordia senior Natalie Hanson vaulted up the charts in the national performance list in the 800 meters at the Ron Masanz Invitational held at MSU Moorhead on Saturday. Hanson ran a 2:11.96 to smash a school record and automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III National Meet. She becomes the second Cobber athlete to automatically qualify for nationals. Earlier in the season, teammate Angie Pfeiffer qualified in the 400 meters.

Hanson's winning time eclipsed Heidi Brenden's school mark of 2:12.30 set back in 2001. It is the first solo school record for Hansen outdoors and sets her up for a fantastic finish to an outstanding track and cross country career at Concordia.

Hanson was not content to have a one-hit wonder at the meet as she helped the 4x400-meter relay team record a time of 3:51.37 and provisionally qualify for the national meet. Joining Hanson on the event-winning team were Alissa Bilden, Kelly Olson and Angie Pfeiffer. Their time is the second fastest in the MIAC and currently the sixth fastest in the nation. It is also the third fastest time in program history.

The only other top ten additions to the school's all-time list was recorded by the 4x100-meter relay team of Pfeiffer, Bilden, Kristina Bruns and Kelly Olson who ran a 50.15 and posted the sixth fastest time in school history.

The Cobbers will now set their sights on the MIAC Championship Meet. Concordia will travel to St. Paul to compete in the conference meet on May 12-13 at the University of St. Thomas.
