MIAC Heptathlon Meet Recap

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/05/06)-- A pair of Concordia athletes placed in the top ten at the MIAC Heptathlon on Saturday. The event is the kickoff to the MIAC Championship Track and Field Meet and was held at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.

Abby Scheel placed sixth with a final total of 3,599 points and Lindsay Kuznia finished ninth with a score of 3,208. Scheel's mark was an improvement of over 235 points from her only other heptathlon of the season. For Kuznia, it was the first time that she was competing in a multi-event competition and she was able to shed the novice category in a quick hurry as she posted a top ten finish.

Scheel used personal bests in the high jump, shot put, javelin and 800 meters to narrowly miss out on the top five. She was only nine points behind the fifth-place finisher. Scheel's mark of 5-1.25 in the high jump was the second-best in the competition. She also had a pair of third place finishes. She ran a 17.77 in the 100-meter hurdles and recorded a time of 28.37 in the 200 meters to claim the third-best mark in the competition.

Kuznia ran an 18.52 in the 100-meter hurdles to post the third fastest time and had a 2:30.82 in the 800 meters to finish fourth in the event.
