MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/10/06)-- Former Concordia women’s track All-American Angie Pfeiffer ’06, Colman, S.D., has been named one of only nine finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor. She is one of only three NCAA Division III athletes among the nine finalists and is the first Concordia athlete to ever be named as a finalist for the award.

The award encompasses all divisions in the NCAA and honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Pfeiffer was a six-time All-American who earned a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She was also a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is currently attending the College of Dentistry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

As an athlete, Pfeiffer broke 13 school records and competed in six NCAA National Championship Meets, including all four outdoor championship meets. She was named the USTFCCCA Central Region Athlete of the Year in the spring of 2006.

She won the MIAC Performance of the Meet award on three separate occasions and was named the MIAC Most Outstanding Track Athlete in 2004 when she helped the Cobbers capture the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She owns both the outdoor and indoor 400 meter conference records, which she broke in her senior season.

Pfeiffer was active in many outside organizations and spent four weeks in Costa Rica volunteering in an orphanage as part of the Cross Cultural Solutions program.

The NCAA Woman of the Year Award will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the 2006 Woman of the Year awards dinner held Murat Centre in Indianapolis, Ind.
