History of Cobber NCAA Meet Participants

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/19/08)-- A pair of Concordia athletes earned invitations to the NCAA Division III national Outdoor Track and Field Meet held at UW-Oshkosh it was announced on Monday. Sophomore Leah Kay will be competing in the heptathlon and high jump, while freshman Katherine Brott earned her trip to nationals in the javelin.

It will be the first outdoor national meet for Kay who participated in the 2008 NCAA National Indoor Meet in the high jump. Brott is making her first-ever appearance in an NCAA national meet.

The tandem help Concordia continue its string of 26 consecutive years of sending athletes to the NCAA National Outdoor Meet. The Cobbers have had at least one athlete qualify for the NCAA meet since the school entered the NCAA in 1983.

Kay qualified for nationals in the heptathlon at the MIAC meet when she won the event with a total score of 4,550 points. That total was the second best in school history and is currently the sixth best in the country this season. She posted her qualifying mark in the high jump in the very first outdoor meet of the season. Coming off her ninth-place showing at the national indoor meet, Kay jumped 5-5.25 at the Disney World Invite on Mar. 22. Her height is currently tied for the 12th best in the nation this season.

Brott had an outstanding freshman season in the javelin. She qualified for nationals at the Cobber Twilight Meet on Apr. 15 when she posted a distance of 136-10. That mark is tied for the sixth farthest in the country this year. Brott recorded a distance of 125-0.00 at the MIAC Championship Meet and finished in third place.

Kay will compete in the heptathlon on Thursday, May 22 beginning at 1 p.m. The competition will continue on Friday, May 23 starting at 2 p.m. She will participate in the high jump on Friday as well. The high jump is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Brott will participate in the javelin which is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 beginning at 2:30 p.m.
