LISLE, Ill. (5/26/06)-- Angie Pfeiffer and Natalie Hanson set the stage for a storybook ending to their careers as they both qualified for the finals in their respective events on Friday at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. Unfortunately Heather Schuster, the third Cobber individual at the outdoor meet failed to qualify for the finals in the 800 meters.

Pfeiffer mirrored the feat of Hanson from the day before as she broke her own school record in the preliminary heat and qualified for the finals. Her time of 55.50 in the first heat of qualifying edged her mark of 55.87 set earlier in the year at the Kansas Relays. She was barely edged out at the tape in her heat and finished second, only .01 of a second behind the heat winner Ashlee Robertson of SUNY-Oneonta.

Pfeiffer will now set her sights on her sixth All-American award when she races in the finals on Saturday, May 27 at 2:10pm. She will start in lane 7 as she hopes to duplicate her stellar performance at the NCAA National Indoor Meet this winter that saw her finish second in the finals of the 400 meters.

Hanson qualified for the finals in her second event of the meet. She ran a 2:12.60 in the second heat of qualifying in the 800 meters and posted the seventh fastest time in the trials. She qualified for the finals in the 1500 meters on Thursday and will now spend a busy Saturday trying to earn All-American honors in both events.

Hanson will compete in the finals of the 1500 meters at 1:20pm and then turn around and race in the finals of the 800 meters at 2:50pm.

Both Pfeiffer and Hanson will have to beat one person in their races to earn All-American status as the top eight finishers in each race automatically earn the prestigious honor.

Schuster, running in the same heat as Hanson, turned in a 2:16.54 and failed to qualify for the finals.
