LISLE, Ill. (5/25/06)-- It was a case of good news, bad news for the Concordia women's track and field team on the first day of the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. on Thursday.

Senior Natalie Hanson did what she has been doing the past month - turning in unbelievable performance after unbelievable performance and breaking school records - and qualified for the finals in the 1500 meters. Unfortunately, the 4x400-meter relay team wasn't as lucky, and were unable to make the finals in an unusually strong field.

Hanson ran a 4:30.31 in the first heat of qualifying and automatically qualified for the finals as the top four from each heat plus the next four fastest qualified for the finals. Hanson's time shaves a full three seconds off her school record of 4:33.65 that she set last week at the UW-La Crosse Qualifier.

Her time was the sixth fastest in the preliminary heats. She will need to finish in the top eight to claim her first All-American award. The finals for the 1500 meters will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 1:20pm.

The Cobber 4x400-meter relay team of Alissa Bilden, Amy Ravenhorst, Kelly Olson and Angie Pfeiffer recorded a time of 3:52.53 in the first heat of qualifying and failed to advance to the finals. Their time was only one second off their qualifying time - the seventh fastest time entering the race.

The unusually fast field in the 4x400 placed a walloping 10 teams below the 3:50.00 mark.

Hanson, Pfeiffer and fellow senior Heather Schuster will all be in action on Friday. Hanson and Schuster will compete in the trials of the 800 meters at 5:20pm, while Pfeiffer begins her quest for her sixth All-American award at 4:20pm in the trials of the 400 meters.
