2007 MIAC Outdoor Meet Award Winners

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/18/07)-- Concordia senior middle distance sensation Heather Schuster (Grafton, N.D./Minto HS) was named the MIAC Most Outstanding Athlete for the recently completed MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet. Schuster won both the 800 meters and 1500 meters and set a stadium record in the 1500-meter final.

It is the first time in her career that Schuster has earned the Most Outstanding Athlete award for the conference meet. She narrowly missed earning the honor at the conference indoor meet after winning both the 600 meters and 800 meters. Schuster becomes the third Cobber women's athlete in the past ten year's to win the award for the conference outdoor meet. Angie Pfeiffer won the honor in 2004 and Sara Grineski in 2000.

Schuster cruised to her two titles by finishing just fast enough in the preliminary and final heats. Having already automatically qualified for the national meet in her primary event in the 800 meters, she coasted to a 2:15.76 in the finals to win the event by over a second. In the 1500 meters, she ran a 4:33.55 to set a new Clements Stadium record and provisionally qualify for the national meet.

Schuster currently holds the third fastest time in the nation in the 800 meters. She posted a 2:09.32 at the Drake Relays on Apr. 27. That time set a new school record.
