(2/02/09)-- Concordia junior Leah Kay (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) was named the MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week it was announced on Monday. Kay won the Cobber Pentathlon on Friday and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Meet. It is the second time in her career that she has won the MIAC Indoor Athlete of the Week honor. She also won the award last season after winning the Cobber Pentathlon. Kay is the defending MIAC champion in the outdoor heptathlon and also earned All-American honors in the event last spring. Kay's score of 3,314 points not only won the event and provisionally qualified her for nationals but it also broke her own school record of 3,249 points which she set last season. Kay's mark is also the second best in the nation in NCAA Division III this season. As part of the event Kay also provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the high jump. Her mark of 5-5.25 is currently sixth in the country and first in the MIAC.
