Meet Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/1/09)-- Concordia's rhyming multi-event duo of Leah Kay and Tara Ray turned in another stellar performance at the MIAC heptathlon at Carleton as they both finished in the top five and helped the Cobbers record 12 team points heading into next weekend's MIAC Track & Field Championship Meet.

Kay broke out of a recent slump and finished second with a total of 4,489 points. That is a season best for the All-American and provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA National Meet. Kay's final total places her fifth on this season national heptathlon list.

Kay's best events of the meet were the high jump, javelin and 800 meters. She scored 759 points in the high jump which was her top point total of the seven events. She cleared a height of 5-03.75 which tied for the top height in the meet. That height was also an outdoor best for Kay this season and might signal a return to form from last year when she earned All-American honors in the event. Kay also posted the best distance in the javelin. She threw the javelin 111-07.00.

Last year Ray finished third in the heptathlon with a score of 3,836 points. She nearly duplicated that point total this year. Ray ended the 2009 event with 3,768 points and finished fifth in a much tougher field. She scored her most points in the running events with her highest point total coming in the 800 meters where she posted 656 points. She also broke the 600-point barrier in the 100-meter hurdles (615 pts.) and the 200-meter dash (604 pts.).
