Meet Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/21/09)-- Concordia is quickly trying to get into high gear as they deal with coming off an extended layoff due to the flood in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The Cobbers continued their trek towards getting into meet shape as they hosted the annual Cobber Twilight Meet on Tuesday at the Jake Christiansen Stadium.

Concordia ran through their rustiness and won the team competition by posting a final team score of 243.0 points. That total was 67 points better than North Dakota State who sent a small group of athletes to the meet.

To go along with their team success, Concordia had several individual earn event wins and posted several other top five finishes along the way to their team title. The top two performances at the meet came from sophomores Katherine Brott and Hailey Brenden. Both athletes recorded wins in hotly contested events. Brott put up a distance of 119-4.00 in the javelin to capture her first win of the season, For Brott, who earned a spot at the national meet last season, it was her season best and the fifth farthest mark in the MIAC this season. Brenden, fresh off her fifth-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the Kansas Relays, ran an 18:22.03 in the 5000 meters. That time is a full second faster than her previous season best of 18:23.76 which she posted at the Lee Krough Invite at Gustavus.

Concordia had two other athletes come away with event wins at the meet and eight others recorded top three finishes. A pair of Brit(t)neys posted wins in the 1500 meters and the 3000-meter steeplechase for CC. Britney Barnett ran a 5:15.46 to capture the 1500 meters and Brittney Christianson clocked a 11:45.91 to win the steeplechase. Christianson's time is the sixth fastest in the conference this season.

Cobber top three finishers included Kierstin Nygaard in the hammer throw (144-3.00), Emily Davis in the discus (131-11.00), Kristen Warren in the shot put (38-9.00), Alyssa Deutschmann in the high jump (5-01.75), Kendra Bengston in the steeplechase (13:28.28), Rachel Mjones in the 1500 meters (5:16.22), Tara Ray in the 400-mater hurdles (71.78) and Alexa Kleingartner in the 100-meter hurdles (16.26).

Concordia will compete at two different meets over the weekend. The Cobbers will send a portion of athletes to the Drake Relays in Iowa while another faction will head to the Al Cassell Relays at Jamestown College.
