Meet Recap:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/10/08)-- For the ninth time in the past 12 seasons Concordia recorded a top three finish at the MIAC Outdoor Championship Track and Field Meet. The Cobbers used their youth and a quality core of field athletes to hold onto third place at the MIAC Meet held at Hamline on Saturday.

The Cobbers finished with a final team total of 83.5 points which was one point better than fourth-place Hamline. St. Thomas won the event with a final team total of 262.0 points.

The highlight of the meet came from Hailey Brenden who ran a 37:32.03 in the 10,000 meters and smashed the school record of 37.39.64 set by Marion Strand back in 1984. Brenden's time was good for second place in the race and provisionally qualified her for the NCAA National Meet. Brenden was the top Concordia finisher at the meet held at Hamline. Cobber sophomore Leah Kay won the heptathlon last week to earn the only individual event win for CC.

Brenden also finished fourth in the 5,000 meters. She posted a time of 18:05.48 which is a season best and is also the sixth fastest in school history.

Not surprisingly the Cobber field athletes scored the majority of the team's points at the meet. Of the 67.5 team points recorded on Friday or Saturday, 46 were scored in the field events alone. The top field event for Concordia was the javelin where CC recorded 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes.

Katherine Brott finished third in the javelin with a toss of 125-0. She was followed by Leah Kay (4th - 114-4), Kristen Warren (112-08) and Sara Sorbo (6th - 112-04). The javelin event alone accounted for 18 team points which is more than three schools scored in the entire meet.

Valerie Glynn, Emily Davis and Sarah Sorvaag earned the other All-Conference awards for finishing in the top three of an event. All three athletes placed third. Glynn recorded a distance of 35-05.25 in the triple jump, Davis posted a mark of 132-05 in the discus and Sorvaag had a toss of 148-03 in the hammer throw. Sorvaag's distance is a personal best and is the seventh best in program history. Sorvaage also went on to finish in eighth place in the discus.

The other top field event for Concordia was the high jump where Kay finished in fifth place with a height of 5-01.75. She was followed by Glynn who came in sixth place with a mark of 4-11.75 and Alyssa Deutschmann who was eighth with the same height.

The other Concordia point getters at the meet were Kierstin Nygaard who posted an eighth-place finish in the shot put, Maria Middelton who placed fifth in the 10,000 meters, Meagan Hansen who was eighth in the 10,000 meters as well and Kristin Slette who placed eighth in the 400 meters.
