COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (3/08/08)-- Concordia showed off its bright future on the second day of the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. The Cobber youngsters helped the team finish in fourth place with a total of 87.0 points. That total is 18 points better than their seed score and was only 11.5 points out of second place.
All told eight different freshmen or sophomores scored points in the meet. Freshmen Hailey Brenden led the kiddie corps as she won the 3000 meters. She ran a 10:36.44 and won the event by almost four full seconds. Her time is the eighth fastest in school history.
Brenden was joined by sophomore Kristin Slette who finished sixth in the 200 meters, freshman Valerie Glynn who was seventh in the triple jump and freshman Kristen Warren who was seventh in the shot put as the only Cobber individual athletes to score points on the second day.
Slette finished off her outstanding conference meet by running a 27.11 in the 200 meters. Her previous best on the year was 27.44. Her time in the conference race puts her in sixth place on the school's all-time list. Slette also finished 11th in the 600-meter dash. For the meet she finished in the top 12 in the 200 meters, 400 meters and 600 meters.
Glynn was one of the top field athletes in the meet for CC. A day after placing second in the high jump, Kay knocked out a distance of 34-04.75 in the finals of the triple jump and finished seventh.
Warren had one of the biggest improvements at the conference meet. Her prior season-best in the shot put was 37-5.0, but then she put up a mark of 39-3.00 in the preliminary heat of the event to finish seventh.
The two Concordia relay teams on the final day of the meet both scored points. The 4x200-meter relay team of Alexa Kleingartner, Ashley Stoffer, Glynn and Tara Ray ran a 1:53.07 and claimed eighth place. In the final event of the meet, the CC 4x400-meter relay team clocked a 4:04.62 and finished third. That time for the quartet of Leah Kay, Katlin Anderson, Brittney Kolstad and Slette is a season best by almost six seconds and is the seventh best in school history.
