Courtesy of GoCobbers.com, Release: March 3, 2007 Meet Rewind: Meet Results: MIAC Championship Meet Results Meet Recap: NORTHFIELD, Minn. (3/3/07)-- Heading into the MIAC Women's Indoor Championship Track and Field Meet, Concordia was seeded to finish ninth and head coach Marv Roeske was hoping to just hold onto that mark. The Cobbers entered the meet without two of their top athletes and were coming off a long trip to New York. Not only did Concordia surpass expectations but they soared all the way into sixth place on the strength of winning the final event of the meet - the 4x400-meter relay. The Cobbers finished the meet with 54.0 total points, which beat out seventh-place St. Ben's by a mere 2.5 points. In fact, the different between 10th place and CC's sixth-place finish was only 14 total points. Concordia had a mix of expected and unexpected athletes come through to accomplish their top six finish. Senior Heather Schuster dominated the middle distance events and is in contention for Women's Athlete of the Meet. She won the 600 meters in a time of 1:37.38, which breaks the school record she set last year at the conference meet. Schuster also won the 800 meters going away by finishing in a national provisional qualifying time of 2:15.33. That time is the second best in school history and the 13th fastest time in the nation this year. Schuster then helped the Cobber 4x400-meter relay team win the final event of the meet as she won every event that she was entered. Joining Schuster in the relay win were Kelly Olson, Kristin Slette and Alissa Bilden. The quartet raced to a 4:03.86, which was four seconds faster than runner-up St. Thomas who dropped the baton midway through the race. The biggest surprise of the day came from field athlete Diane Moliva. The junior was the last athlete to earn a spot in the finals of the weight throw and then uncorked a personal-best distance of 48-10 in the finals to finish fourth. That distance is a national-provisional qualifying mark and is also the seventh best in the history of the Cobber program. Other top six finishers for the Cobbers who earn MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors include Rachel Charpentier in the 1000 meters and Kaitlin Anderson in the pentathlon. The Concordia 4x200-meter relay team and the distance medley relay team also earned all-conference honorable mention honors. The 4x200 team of Slette, Olson, Bilden and Tara Ray finished fourth in a time of 1:49.80 and the distance medley team of Kendra Bengtson, Bilden, Ali Parsons and Anna Hagen placed fifth with a final mark of 12:55.83. Schuster and Moliva will now await word from the NCAA office as to whether or not they will earn a spot in the DIII National Indoor Track and Field Meet held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Ind. on Mar. 9-10.
