Meet Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/05/07)-- Concordia freshman multi-event athlete Leah Kay sent notice to the rest of the MIAC that she will be the person to beat for the next three years by placing second at the MIAC Heptathlon on Friday in Northfield.

Kay's final total of 4,195 was only 59 points behind champion Dana Luiken of Hamline, who is a senior this year and was competing in the final conference heptathlon meet of her career. Kay's score also provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division III National Meet. It is also the fourth best heptathlon score in school history.

Sophomore Katlin Anderson and senior Amber Schackman were part of the trio of Cobber athletes that all placed in the top 11 of the event and gave Concordia a two-point team lead over the Pipers heading into the MIAC Championship Meet. Anderson placed fifth in her first conference heptathlon and Schackman finished in 11th place in her final multi-event meet of her career.

Kay was consistent in all seven events in the competition and did not have record a finish outside of the top ten in any event. Her two strongest showings were in the high jump and the 800 meters where she finished second in both competitions. She posted a height of 5-3.75 in the high jump to tie her season best which is the fourth best in school history. Her time of 2:26.49 in the 800 meters is also a season best.

Anderson, like Kay, also excelled in the high jump and the 800 meters. She finished just behind Kay in both events - placing third. In the high jump, she recorded a season-best mark of 5-02.50 and her time of 2:29.74 in the 800 meters was also a season best.

Schackman posted top five finishes in three events but was hurt when she failed to post a mark in the long jump. Her best event was the javelin where she finished second with a distance of  57-04.25. Her highest scoring event was the 100-meter hurdles where she ran a 16.89 and gained 609 points.
