Matchday Match Recap

ST. CLOUD, Minn.-- In the Cobbers' last match against MSU Moorhead, Concordia was done in by a struggling doubles game. On Saturday against St. Mary's, the opposite held true as the Cobbers' won two of the three doubles matches, but then turned around and lost four of the six singles matches and fell 5-2. The match was halted because of time constraints with two singles competitions left to be finished. Those matches were not necessary due to the fact that the Cardinals had already claimed the five match wins necessary to win the team competition.

The loss, coupled with a 6-0 defeat to perennial league power Gustavus earlier in the day, pushes the Cobbers' overall record to 0-8 on the year. They are 0-7 in MIAC play. St. Mary's improves to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Beth Meier and Katie Luther picked up the first win of the match for the Cobbers as they won 8-4 at #1 doubles. The match even got better for Concordia as the #2 doubles team of Annie Styba and Mollie Miller gave the Cobbers a 2-0 lead with an 8-6 victory. From that point on it was all Cardinals as the claimed the final doubles match and all four singles matches that were played to completion.

Concordia will return home for a match against the University of Mary on Wednesday, Mar. 15 at 6:00pm in the Olson Forum.
