Match Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/22/09)-- With no apologies to former NFL head coach Dennis Green, Gustavus was who the Cobbers thought they were. Concordia lost 9-0 to the No.18-ranked Gusties on Wednesday in a match that once again shows the Gusties perennial national powerhouse level.

Concordia entered the match with an 11-3 record and producing some of their best tennis in over 15 years. The Cobbers unfortunately ran into a Gustavus team that is poised to win their 18th straight MIAC regular season title. The Gusties haven't lost a conference match since the 1991 season.

The loss is the second straight for the Cobbers who fall to 11-4 in all matches and 3-3 in MIAC play. GAC improves to 18-9 and 9-0 in the league.

The Cobbers' weren't able to get a set win in the match as Gustavus once again blanked CC. Concordia hasn't won a match against the Gusties since 2002.

The closest match of the day came at No.2 doubles where Concordia's tandem of Ashley Leister and Ayah Kamel started strong but faded in the stretch and lost 8-3. In singles play, No.6 singles player Melanie Gail lost 6-4 in the second set.

The Cobbers will play an exihibition match on Thursday, Apr. 23 at 3 p.m. against the club team from NDSU. Concordia will then return to varsity action when they host a pair of conference matches over the weekend. CC will play Bethel on Saturday, Apr. 25 at 12:30 p.m. and then welcome St. Ben's to Moorhead on Sunday, Apr. 26 at 2 p.m.
