Match Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/14/09)-- It's official. With their 7-2 win over the University of Mary in Moorhead on Saturday the Cobbers have the best start to a season in 20 years. Concordia is now 8-1 on the year and has won seven straight matches. Their 8-1 record eclipses the 7-1 mark of the 2002 season.

Concordia continued their success by winning all three doubles matches. Concordia has now won five of their last six doubles matches on the year. They are now 20-7 in doubles matches on the year.

Head coach Troy Hanestad altered his singles lineup to allow several players to see action for the first time all season. Sophomore Jessica Hoffman earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No.6 singles to win the first collegiate match of her career.

Freshman Katie Edin, who normally plays at No.2 singles, moved up to No.1 singles and captured a 6-0, 6-2 win. Amy Freeman was also bumped up in the order and rallied to come away with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at No.2 singles. Sophomore Melanie Gail was the final Cobber singles player to win a match. She posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No.3 singles to stay perfect on the season. She is now 5-0 on the year.

Concordia will take to the road next weekend when they play at St. Cloud State on Friday, Mar. 20 at 2 p.m. They will turn around and play Bemidji State at 5 p.m. on Friday at 5 p.m.
