Match Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/15/09)-- For the second straight week Concordia showed how far they have come from last year in concrete results. Last week they beat Northwestern in the season opener. On Sunday the Cobbers split the six singles matches against St. Thomas but lost all three doubles matches and fell 6-3 to the Tommies.

The 6-3 result is a dramatic improvement from the 9-0 loss at the hands of UST last season. Two years ago CC lost 8-1 to the Tommies.

The three singles wins came from freshman Andrea Rognlien, senior Ashley Leister and sophomore Melanie Gail. Rognlien powered her way to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No.1 singles. The win was the second straight for Rognlien who is now 2-0 in her collegiate singles career. Leister, who was last year's No.1 singles player, benefitted from her top-flight experience and cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No.3 singles. Gail rounded out the trio by earning a 6-3, 6-1 win at No.6 singles.

In doubles play, Rognlien teamed with fellow freshman Katie Edin and lost in extra games 9-7. The other two doubles matches were decided by identical 8-3 scores.

Concordia will now head south for their spring trip over mid-semester break. The Cobbers will play four matches in Orlando, Fla. beginning on Feb. 22.
