Match Recap:

ST. PETER , Minn. (3/18/07)-- Concordia used a convincing 8-1 win over non-conference foe Martin Luther on Sunday to earn their very first victory of the season and put an end to a nine-match losing streak that dated back to the 2006 season.

The Cobbers won all three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles matches to record their most lopsided victory since they beat Hamline by a similar 8-1 score in the middle of the 2002 season.

The Cobber No.1 doubles team of Ashley Leister and Katie Luther set the tone for the overall match as they came away with an 8-6 win to record their second win in as many days. The duo now has a team-leading three wins in doubles competition. Luther was also able to pick up a win in singles play as she won in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to earn her first singles win of the season.

Freshman Anna Matetich paid dividends in her first weekend of collegiate action. After joining the team last week because of competing on the Cobber women's basketball team, Matetich won both her doubles and singles matches on the day. She teamed with Val Bostrom to come away with a 9-8 victory at No.2 doubles and then "bageled" her No.5 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0. Both wins were the first of her promising collegiate career.

The No.3 doubles team of Leah Enger and Laura Haugo also earned their first collegiate victory. The duo, playing together for the first time this season, cruised to an 8-2 win.

Three different CC players earned wins in singles play. Junior Kelsey Schendel was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No.4 singles to post her second victory of the season. Freshmen Amy Freeman and Mandy Whipps rounded out the Cobber win total. Freeman joined Schendel in the two-win column by recording a 6-4, 6-1 win at No.3 singles. Whipps won her first collegiate match by claiming a straight set 6-2, 6-1 win at No.6 singles.

Concordia will have a pair of matches next weekend. The Cobbers will play at UND on Friday, Mar. 23 at 7 p.m. and then square off against conference rival St. Ben's on Saturday, Mar. 24 at 5 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
