Match Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (3/17/07)-- Concordia continues to edge closer to their first victory of the season as they fell 6-3 to St. Olaf on Saturday in Northfield. The margin of defeat is the narrowest of the season for the Cobbers who have now dropped seven straight to start the year.

St. Olaf (3-2/2-2 MIAC) won the match by claiming two of the three doubles matches and adding four singles victories. There were two key matches in the meet that helped sway the Oles to the victory. At the No.2 doubles spot, the Cobbers tandem of Amy Freeman and Anna Matetich lost in a tiebreaker. The match went back-and-forth throughout the entire contest before the St. Olaf duo prevailed 9-8 (10-6).

The other key match was at the No.2 singles spot where CC senior Katie Luther lost in the super-set tiebreaker. Luther won the opening set 6-4 but then dropped the second set 6-1 before falling 10-6 in the tiebreaker.

Luther combined with freshman Ashley Leister to record the only doubles win for the Cobbers. The pair won 8-4 at No.1 doubles. Leister then added a singles win as well. Playing at No.1 singles, she edged the Oles' Kristina Poplavska 6-3, 7-6.

The other win for Concordia came from Kelsey Schendel who earned a victory when her opponent had to default.

The Cobbers will look for their first win of the season when they play Martin Luther College on Sunday, Mar. 18 at 8 a.m. at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
