Match Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/16/07)-- Looks can be deceiving. Just ask the Concordia women's tennis team. On the outside, the Cobbers' 8-1 loss at the hands of MSU Moorhead on Friday in Fargo appears to be one-sided affair. However, a close look reveals that several of the matches won by the Dragons could have just as easily swung over to the Concordia side of the ledger.

The Cobbers lost two singles matches in the super-set tiebreaker, and both by less than three points, and lost two of the doubles matches by the minimum two games.

The loss drops Concordia's record to 0-2 on the season, while MSU Moorhead evens up their overall record at 1-1.

The lone win for the Cobbers came at No.3 where junior Kelsey Schendel poster her first win of the year with a 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 nailbiting decision over Laura Benz.

The other highly dramatic match in singles play came at the top where Cobber freshman Ashley Leister won the first set but then lost the second set in a tiebreaker and the super-set tiebreaker 10-8.

In doubles play, CC's top tandem of Leister and Katie Luther dropped an 8-6 battle to Rose Milless and Miranda Quast. The No.3 doubles battle was just as close as Leah Enger and Amy Freeman from Concordia were just edged out by Benz and Claudia Irina.

Concordia will turn around and play a doubleheader on Sunday. The Cobbers will host St. Thomas at 11 a.m. in the Olson Forum and then play regionally-ranked Carleton at 5 p.m. at Court Plus in Fargo, N.D.
