Doubleheader Recap:

MORRIS, Minn. (3/27/10)-- Concordia returned to action after a three-week break and split a pair of rain-soaked games with the UM-Morris in Morris, Minn. on Saturday. The Cobbers scored a season-high 21 runs in the opener to cruise to a 21-12 win in five innings. CC used up all their scoring power in the first game as they fell 6-3 in the nightcap.

The win in the first game snapped a four-game losing skid for Concordia. The Cobbers are now 3-14 on the season as they head into conference play. The Cougars move their overall record to 2-9 on the year.

The 21 runs scored in the opener were almost as many as Concordia had scored in the first 15 games of the season. CC entered the day having played only 35 runs on the season. The Cobbers pounded out 14 hits and hit four home runs to gain the nine-run victory. Concordia did most of their damage in the second and fifth innings when they scored 17 runs combined in the two frames. The Cobbers plated eight runs in the second to take an early 8-0 lead and then added nine more in the fifth to grab a 21-7 lead.

Five different Cobber players had at least two hits in the first game. Emily Salo was 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot and scored four runs and drove in two more. Maddie Haroldson was 2-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBI. Michelle Olek aslo went 2-for-4 and hit her first collegiate homer. Kayla Hendrickson also hit her first collegiate long ball as she went 2-for-4. Becki Zimmerman was the final CC player to go "yard". She was 1-for-1 but drove in five runs. Nikki Clouse was 2-for-3 and scored three times in the game.

Joelle Link pitched 4.0 innings to earn her first collegiate victory. She gave up seven hits and allowed six earned runs.

The second game boiled down to the sixth inning as Concordia gave up four runs in the decisive frame after trailing only 2-1 heading into the sixth. The Cobbers took a 1-0 lead in the second when Kelly Tasky singled home Link.

The Cobbers rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh but they were unable to come all the way back and fell by three. Both runs in the last inning were score with two outs.

For the game, both teams had 12 hits and committed one error.

Concordia opens up MIAC play on Wednesday, Apr. 6 when they square off against Bethel in Arden Hills beginning at 4 p.m.
