ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/10/09)-- Concordia gave up a pair of big innings against Hamline and were swept by the Pipers 6-2, 5-3 in St. Paul on Friday. The Cobbers allowed nine of the 11 runs that Hamline scored in two innings and were swept for the second consecutive time to start the conference season. CC allowed a five-spot in the fifth inning in the opener and then conceded four runs in the third inning in the nightcap.
Cobber junior Maddie Haroldson continued her hot streak at the plate in MIAC games. Haroldson was 3-for-6 in the series and drove in three of the five runs CC scored on the day. She also connected on her first home run of the season in the first game. Haroldson is now hitting .500 in the team's conference games and has driven in five of the team's eight conference runs.
Besides Haroldson, Emily Jensen and Amanda Michaelson also had multiple hits in the series. Jensen was 3-for-7 in the two games and scored a pair of runs. Michaelson was 2-for-3 in the second game and drove in a single run.
On the mound, Kesley Jones pitched a complete game in the opener. She struck out eight batters but gave up nine hits and allowed four earned runs. Erin Johnson pitched in the second game and struck out five and conceded five runs.
The Cobbers will stay on the road and play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 11 a.m.
