ST. PETER, Minn. (4/23/08)--
Concordia was unable to score a run in the two games at Gustavus and lost 7-0 and 3-0 in St. Peter on Wednesday. The Cobbers managed only five hits all day and struck out 26 times as they dropped their fourth straight game.
CC is now 4-14 in the MIAC and 7-25 overall. The Gusties win for the sixth straight time and are now 14-4 in the conference and 24-6 overall.
In the first game, Gustavus scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings and had a four-run fourth inning to come up with their seven runs in the contest. Cobber pitcher Erin Johnson allowed six earned runs, 10 hits and struck out five in her 25th appearance of the season. Concordia had four hits in the opener and were led by sophomore Emily Jensen who went 2-for-3. Amanda Michaelson and Becki Zimmerman were the only other CC players to hit safely in the first game.
The nightcap was more of the same for Concordia as they struck out 14 times and came up with only one hit. Michaelson connected on the lone base knock for CC in the fourth inning when she recorded her sixth double of the season. She finished the day 2-for-6 and raised her season batting average to .300 for the first time all season.
Erin Johnson pitched the second straight game on the day. She shut down the Gusties for the first four innings of the finale but was done in by a three-run fifth frame. In that inning, Gustavus scored their three runs on three hits and were aided by a lone Cobber error. For the game, Johnson allowed just the three runs and scattered nine hits.
Concordia will stay on the road and play at St. Olaf at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 24. If the weather does not allow the series to be played outside, the teams will move inside and play at the Rosemount Dome at 6 p.m.
