Gameday Game Recap

ROSEMOUNT, Minn.
(4/06/07)-- Cobber sophomore pitcher Jill
Reinert set a school record for most strikeouts in a single game in the first game of Concordia's two-game split with Bethel on Friday at the Rosemount Dome in Rosemount, Minn. Reinert fanned 20 batters in the Cobbers' 6-3 win over the Royals in the series opener in a game that lasted 12 innings. Reinert took to the mound in the second game, but was unable to repeat her game one magic as Concordia fell 8-3.

After not playing a game for almost a full month due to weather conditions, the Cobbers finally opened up MIAC play by squaring off against Bethel inside the Rosemount Dome. Concordia was able to ride the strength of Reinert's arm and an offensive attack that knocked out 10 hits in the first game to gain the split against the Royals. Reinert struck out the side on three occasions and posted two-strike out innings in a pair of innings as she earned her third win of the season. Reinert's 20 strikeout total broke the old mark of 14 set by Erin Gunderson in 2000. Reinert also set the school record for most innings pitched in a single game by a single pitcher.

Concordia struck for single runs in the second and third innings of the opener to grab a 2-0 lead. Bethel then responded with a single run in the fourth inning when Reinert made her only hiccup of the game by giving up a leadoff home run to Lauren Habisch. Bethel tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning after a leadoff double and then a timely two-out passed ball that scored Randiann Sather from third base.

The teams then traded runs in the 10th inning before Concordia exploded for three runs in the top of the 12th frame. The game-winning runs were scored as the Cobbers knocked out two hits and stole a pair of bases in the inning. The big blow came from the bat of Reinert who singled in Emily Jensen and Amanda Michaelson. Reinert then shut down the Royals in the bottom of the inning to put an end to the longest game in Cobber softball history.

Reinert finished the game by allowing six hits and three earned runs over the 12 innings of play.

In the second game, Bethel exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a 3-3 tie and held on for the 8-3 vixtory. Reinert started the second game, but then tired in the fifth inning and was replaced by Lisa Kott who pitched the final 1.2 innings.

For the day, both Concordia and Bethel knocked out 18 hits.
