MIAC Championship Meet Recap

NORTHFIELD, Minn.-- Concordia had several outstanding individual performances en route to an eighth place finish at the MIAC Championship Meet held at Carleton College.

The Cobbers had 25 total team points which was 12 points behind seventh-place Macalester. St. Thomas won the meet with 215.0 points.

Dave Pettit finished second in the heptathlon. It is his first top two finish at an MIAC Championship Meet. Pettit used the strength of 2:51.4 time in the 1000 meters and a height of 6-2 in the high jump to capture runner-up honors.

Pettit's final total of 4,121 set a new school record. The heptathlon was added to the men's indoor track and field schedule in 2004.

Josh Smith ran a 1:15.31 in the 600 meters to finish fourth.

One of the best develpoments in the men's track and field program in the past few seasons has been the improved performance of junior Dusten Olejnicak in the long jump and triple jump. Olejnicak finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 43-6. He also scored points in the long jump by placing seventh in the long jump with a mark of 20-11.75.

The three athletes scored 17 of the team's 25 points for the two-day meet.

Bill Oehlers was the only other individual to finish in the top eight of an event. He placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 46-7.
