MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/14/08)-- A pair of Concordia track and field athletes were named the MIAC Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. Tom Flynn earned MIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors and Xavier Carroll was named the MIAC Track Athlete of the Week.

The two become the first Cobber men's track and field athletes to earn the conference weekly awards since teammate Dusten Olejnicak was named the MIAC Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 28. It is the first MIAC award for both Flynn and Carroll.

Flynn earned his award for finishing in second place in the javelin at the Bison Open on Sunday. Flynn posted a mark of 185-01, which is a personal best by over 14 feet and is less than three feet away from provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Meet. The distance is also the second best in the MIAC this season. Last year Flynn's top mark was 170-0 at the Jamestown Open. He finished fourth in the MIAC in the javelin in 2007 and was runner-up in his freshman season in 2006.

Carroll ran a 22.85 in the 200-meter dash and placed third at the Bison Open. That time is the fifth best in the conference this season and is almost one second faster than his best time in all of last season. In 2007, Carroll posted a season best of 23.68 at the Cobber Twilight on Apr. 17.

Carroll is coming off a successful indoor season where he posted the eighth fastest time in school history in the 55-meter dash.

The two will have a chance to better their marks when they compete in the annual Cobber Twilight meet on Tuesday, Apr. 15 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
