In his first four years as men's track and field coach Larson coached five All-Americans and nine National Qualifiers, including the 1995 Indoor Shot Put National Champion, the 1995 Outdoor Discus National Champion, and the 4th Place 1995 Indoor 4 x 400 Meter Relay. 1997 was Garrick's first season as the Men's Cross Country coach.
Larson was named the Concordia men's cross country head coach in 1997. Since that time he has coached a variety of MIAC All-Conference award-winners. In 2004 he helped guide Nick Myran ('05, Kenyon, Minn.) to All-Conference and All-Region honors and a spot in the 2004 NCAA Division III National Meet. In 1999 he was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. After completing a Biology degree at St. Olaf College in 1991, Garrick went on to graduate school at the University of Minnesota, specializing in Kinesiology. He is a Licensed Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Certified Level I and Level II USA Track and Field Coach. Currently, in addition to his coaching duties, Larson works as an Instructor in the Department of Physical Education and Health. Garrick lives in Moorhead with his wife Mary, who also works at Concordia. They have two children, Mathias and Greta. |
