MIAC Outdoor Meet Recap:

WINONA, Minn. (5/15/10)-- After starting the final day of the MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet in third place, Concordia was unable to get on track on Saturday and fell to eighth place in the final team standings.

The Cobbers had five different fifth-place finishers at the meet in Winona and earned seven total MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention awards during the two-day meet hosted by St. Mary's.

The top performance of the meet for Concordia came on Friday in the preliminary heats of the 100 meters. Senior Xavier Carroll raced to a 10.93 in the third heat to become only the only the second Cobber athlete in the history of the program to run a sub 11-second 100 meters. His time was the second fastest in school history and was only .04 of a second off the school record set by Orea Wright in 2007. Unfortunately Carroll pulled up with a hamstring injury during Saturday’s final and was unable to repeat the performance, finishing ninth in the event.

Marly Simmons completed his successful senior conference meet. A week after finishing second in the decathlon, Simmons posted a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.

John Bye had a pair of top 10 finishes in the hurdle events in his very first conference competition. He was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 55.32 in the finals of the event is a personal best and the fastest run by a CC athlete since the 1997 season.

Tom Sederquist also had two All-Conference Honorable Mention finishes at the meet. He was sixth in both the 5000 meters and 10000 meters. While leading the 10k with 2200 meters to go, Sederquist was clipped in the heal and ran shoeless to the finish.

The other top 5 finishes for the Cobbers came in field events. Felix Okoth was fifth in the triple jump, Giles Henry was fifth in the discus and Jeff Bakke was fifth in the javelin.

Concordia had a pair of seventh-place finishes in the relay events. Both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter quartets were one spot away from earning All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. The 4x100-meter posted the school’s No.2 all-time mark of 42.78 in preliminaries but dropped to 43.28 in the finals after injured Xavier Carroll had to be replaced. The 4x400-meter performance was a three-second season best with two replacements due to injury.

Concordia will now hit the trail in order to try and post national provisional qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA Meet.
