Meet Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/1/10)-- Concordia traveled across 8th street in Moorhead and spent a cold and rainy day at MSU Moorhead competing at the annual Ron Masanz Invite. The Cobbers produced four top 3 finishes and had 16 top 10 performances as they continue their trek towards the MIAC Championship Meet.

Concordia had a pair of individuals earn event wins. The biggest win of the day was turned in by sophomore Felix Okoth who won the triple jump with a distance of 46-07.50. That mark is just above the national provisional qualifying distance of 46-07.25. It is also the third farthest jump in the MIAC this season and in the top 20 of the nation. Okoth also placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 21-02.00.

CC junior Tom Sederquist continued his successful season. Sederquist has alternated among the long distance races this season and has now won events in five different meets this outdoor season. Sederquist clocked a 14:57.94 in the 5000 meters at the Masanz Invite and won the race by over 40 seconds. That time is a career best for Sederquist and marks only the third time in school history that an athlete has posted a sub 15-minute 5K. The time is also the second fastest in school history and fastest since the 1980 season. The school record in the 5000 meters is 14:39.08 set by Cobber Hall of Famer John Mutschelknaus in 1980.

The top event for the Cobbers at the Masanz Invite on Saturday was the 400 meters where four different CC athletes placed in the top 10. David Beery led the charge in the event by running a 50.61 and finishing third. Jason Sather finished sixth, David Haugen was eighth and John Bye was ninth.

Marly Simmons, Brad McConn, Mike Reponen and Jeff Bakke turned in the other top 5 finishes at the meet. Simmons was fourth in the 400-meters with a season-best time of 59.05. McConn and Reponen earned their finishes in the 3000-meter steeplechase. McConn was fourth with a season-best time of 10:04.22 and Reponen also posted a season best mark. He finished in 10:19.10 and was fifth. Bakke overcame sloppy conditions in the javelin area and recorded a season-best distance of 157-03.00 and placed third.

The top relay for Concordia at the meet was the 4x400-meter relay team of Tyler Spiczka, Haugen, Bye and Beery who ran a 3:26.79 and placed second. That finishing time is the best by any Cobber quartet this season.

The Cobbers will have their final meet before the MIAC Championship Meet when they travel to St. John's for the third time this season and participate in the Meet of the Saints on Saturday, May 8.
