Meet Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (3/4/10)-- Concordia had four athletes compete in the MIAC Pentathlon at Carleton College in Northfield on Friday. The Cobber contingent was led by sophomore Caleb Giesen who finished eighth with a final total of 2,943 points.

Giesen was joined by Jeff Bakke and Brad Johnson as Concordia had three athletes finish in the top 11. Bakke was two points behind Giesen in ninth place with 2,941 points. Johnson, participating in his first conference pentathlon, finished in 11th place with 2,659 points. Marly Simmons was the final member of Concordia to compete in the event. Simmons only completed three events and finished in 16th place.

Giesen's best event of the day came at the start as he ran an 8.57 in the 55-meter hurdles and finished second among the competitors. His higgest scoring event came at the end where he clocked a 2:48.82 in the 1000 meters and finished third. Both times are season bests for Giesen and his time in the 1000 meters is over 10 seconds faster than his previous season best. He also had a season best in the long jump where he posted a distance of 18-08.75.

Bakke finished third among competitors in the 55-meter hurdles, long jump and shot put. Like Giesen, Bakke scored his most points in the 1000 meters as he ran a season-best 2:57.25 and recorded 691 points.
