(4/21/09)-- Once again Concordia welcomed athletes from college and universities from around the area to the annual Cobber Twilight Meet. Athletes from seven different schools competed at the meet in Moorhead on Tuesday. Concordia used its own meet to showcase its 2009 team by coming away with the team championship. The Cobbers edged out North Dakota State by posting a final team score of 184.2 points. That was less than four points better than the Bison who finished second with a score of 140.5. The Cobbers had a pair of athletes claim individual event wins and had 13 top five finishes at the meet. Senior Billy Oehlers gave Concordia one its event wins as he posted a victory in the shot put. Oehlers came up with a distance of 49-9.75 to win the event by over a foot. His winning mark is a season best and is the fourth best in the MIAC this season. Distance runner Tom Sederquist recorded the other win for the Cobbers. Sederquist turned in a time of 4:08.72 in the 1500 meters and won the event by almost a full two seconds beating out competitors from NCAA Division I NDSU and Division II schools MSU Moorhead and Bemidji State. Sederquist's time is a season best. Nick Birchem and Giles Henry posted a 3-4 finish in the discus. Birchem placed third with a toss of 147-0.00 while Henry finished fourth with a distance of 146-8.00 Birchem's mark pushes him into third place on the conference honor roll. Birchem also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 47-1.00. Felix Okoth, Dan Thorson and Jeff Bakke all turned in fourth-place finishes in field events. Concordia junior Xavier Carroll led the track athletes. He placed third in the 100 meters and ninth in the 200 meters. His time of 11.42 in the 100 meters is a season best. The Cobbers' 4x400-meter relay team of David Beery, Michael Dunn, David Haugen and Jason Sather had a successful meet, placing second in the event with a time of 3:29.14. Concordia will once again split their team over the weekend. The Cobbers will send a group to the Drake Relays in Iowa while another crew heads to the Al Cassell Relays at Jamestown College.
