Meet Recap:

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/14/09)-- Concordia won five events at the St. John's Alumni Meet in Collegeville on Saturday.

Marly Simmons (Jr, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) posted the most impressive win of the day by capturing the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.9 seconds. Freshman David Beery (Belgrade, Mont.) was the most decorated Cobber of the day as he won three events. He won the 400 meters in a time of 52.91. He also took the long jump with a distance of 20-09.25 and was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team (Beery, Eric Juven, Paul Shol and Simmons). The quartet ran away from the field with a time of 3:34.79.

Adam Fitzgerald added the other Cobber win, capturing the 800 meters with a mark of 2:04.48.

Tom Sederquist (So, Moorhead, Minn.) became the 12th Cobber in program history to run a sub-nine minutes in the 3000 meters. He raced to a 8:57.50 and finished second. Paul Westmark (Sr, Appleton, Wis.) set another pole vault personal best. A week after clearing 13 feet for the first time in his career, he added to his PR by recording a height of 13-04.50. That mark moves Westmark into the top 14 on the Cobber all-time list. Amazingly, Westmark learned the vault in college as part of the decathlon.

Another significant runner-up on Saturday was Billy Oehlers (Sr, North Branch, Minn.) who had a distance of 48-03.50 in the shot put.

The Cobbers will return to St. John's on February 21 for a quadrangular meet.
