Meet Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/15/08)-- Concordia hosted the annual Cobber Twilight Meet on Tuesday and came away with a third-place finish. Concordia was one of only three teams that cracked the 100-point mark as they finished only four points behind second-place UND. NDSU won the men's meet with a final total of 162.5 points.

Concordia had only two athletes win individual events as they used sheer numbers to come away with the third-place team finish. Paul Westmark ran a 58.03 in the 400-meter hurdles and won the event by less than .50 seconds. Joining Westmark on the winners stand for Concordia was senior Steve Astrup who posted a time of 35.40.38 in the 10,000 meters.

Rocky Jantzen, Billy Oehlers, Jeff Bakke and Nick Birchem were the only other Cobber athletes to post finishes in the top three of an event. Jantzen recorded a time of 10:26.81 in the 3000-meter steeplechase and finished second. Oehlers posted a third-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 49-02.5 and Bakke and Birchem went 2-3 in the javelin. Bakke came away with a distance of 172-6 and Birchem finished with a mark of 167-0. For Bakke it was his best toss of the season and pushes him into fifth place in the conference this season.

Concordia will head to a pair of meets this weekend. Part of the team will take part in the Kansas Relays from Thursday through Saturday while the other members of the squad will compete in the UM-Morris Invite on Saturday, Apr. 19.
