Meet Recap:

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (3/08/08)-- Senior Josh Smith led Concordia in the second day of the MIAC Championship Meet as he placed second in the 600-yard dash. Smith's performance helped the Cobbers finish eighth for the third straight season. After recording 18 points in the first day of the event, CC finished the meet with a total of 35.0 points.

Smith finished second in the 600-yard dash after winning the event at last year's conference meet. He almost used the same recipe to win the race in 2008. Competing in the slower heat in the field, Smith clocked a 1:13.63. he was then beat out by Tom Ballinger from Carleton who ran a 1:12.48 to break the facility record. Smith's time was only .01 of a second off the school record of 1:13.62 set by Collin Beachy back in 1992.

Besides Smith, the only other CC athlete to score points on the second day of competition was Billy Oehlers. Oehlers finished third in the shot put with a personal best mark of 50-8.00. His 50-plus toss came in the preliminaries of the event. That mark is the fourth best in program history.

The other point getter for the Cobbers was the 4x200-meter relay team of Xavier Carroll, Perry Patterson, Michael Dunn and Jason Sather. The quartet clocked a time of 1:32.42 and finished sixth. That time is the second fastest in school history and only 0.13 seconds off of the program record set in 2002.
