Meet Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/16/08)-- A pair of school records that had stood for over 17 years fell at the Bison Classic on Saturday. Josh Smith broke the program record in the 300-meter dash and Paul Westmark bettered the record in the 60-meter hurdles. The pair was part of a Cobber team that turned in one of its best indoor performances in recent history. Besides Smith and Westmark's record, CC had four other top ten program-best marks.

Smith continued to get ready for the MIAC Championship Meet on Mar. 7-8 by racing to a time of 36.25. That time was .32 seconds better than the old mark of 36.57 set by Andy Becker in 1991. Coincidentally, Becker also set his school record at NDSU. Smith's time is the fastest in the MIAC this season.

Westmark cemented his place in Concordia history in the 60-meter hurdles as he prepares for the MIAC Heptathlon. Westmark broke from the blocks and clocked a time of 8.58. That broke the old record of 8.76 set by Jeff Hertel at the 1999 MIAC Championship Meet.

Smith and Westmark also helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish at the highly competitive meet. They were joined by teammates Dusten Olejnicak and Justin Shobe and ran a 3:27.74 and beat the top teams from MSU Moorhead and Jamestown College. Their finishing time is the fifth fastest in program history.

Olejnicak also turned in a top ten performance. He was right behind Smith in the 300-meter dash. He had a time of 36.88 and finished sixth in the event. That time is now the third fastest in Cobber history.

Jason Sather made the 300-meters a trio of top ten times. He finished ninth in a time of 38.27 which is the 10th best in program history.

The Cobbers will hope to continue their indoor success when they host the Cobber Open on Friday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
