Meet Recap:

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (5/18/07)-- The Cobber 4x400-meter relay team achieved one goal during their final two last chance meets, but fell short of their ultimate goal of qualifying for the national outdoor meet.

The quartet of Dusten Olejnicak, Paul Westmark, Josh Haddeland and Josh Smith posted a 3:16.89 at the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Open on Thursday and broke the school record they had set at the MIAC Championship Meet on Saturday. The relay team ran a 3:17.15 at the conference meet and finished in second place. They were able to improve on that time by .21 of a second thanks to a strong second half of the race by Haddeland and Smith. Had the team ran the 3:16.89 at the MIAC meet, they would have captured the event since St. John's won with a time of 3:16.93.

The Cobbers' time at the La Crosse meet was a national provisional qualifying time but wasn't fast enough to push them into the top 20 in the nation with a chance to be selected to the DIII national Outdoor Meet.

The relay team was hoping to better their time at the North Central Last Chance Meet in Naperville, Ill. on Friday but was unable to come up with a third straight record-breaking performance and settled for a time of  3:17.81.
