Courtesy of GoCobbers.com, Release: February 4 Matchday Scoring Summary Doubles competition Eisele/Lantz (EC), 8-4 Torres/Goihl (CM), 9-7 Matchday Match Recap The Cobebrs were supposed to start the weekend by playing a pair of matches at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis. on Saturday. Those matches were cancelled after terrible driving conditions in Minnesota on Friday did not allow Concordia enough driving time to get to De Pere. Undaunted, Concordia left on Saturday for their match against the Blugolds on Sunday. Road weary and tired from the delays, thje Cobbers were unable to overcome a tough UW-Eau Claire squad and fell 7-2. The loss is the second straight for the Cobbers and drops their overall record to 0-2. The Blugolds improved to 3-1 on the season with the other two wins coming over St. Thomas and St. Scholastica. One of the early season highlights for Dave Lester's crew is the #1 doubles play of Jordy Kamerling and William Wischer. The tandem just started playing together this season and are undefeated in their first two matches of the year. On Sunday, Kamerling and Wischer scored one of the two team points by beating Tim Eisele and Steve Lantz 8-4. Last weekend the pair downed the #1 doubles team from Bethel 8-6. The other Cobber victory came at the #4 singles spot where freshman Kevin Goihl recorded his first collegiate win with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Aaron Nordenskjold. Concordia will continue on the road in the early part of the season when they play at Carleton on Feb. 17 at 7:00pm and then turn around and play at St. Thomas on Feb. 18 at 6:00pm. |
