Matchday Match Recap
ROCHESTER, Minn. (4/29/06)-- Three weeks ago Concordia was hammered by St. John's 8-1. On Saturday the Cobbers saved their best for the last match of the season as they downed the Johnnies 5-4 to claim third place at the MIAC Tournament held at the Rochester Athletic Club.

The third-place finish represents the highest place for a Cobber tennis team at the conference tournament since the league went to the elimination format for the tournament back in 2003. Concordia is also 4-2 in the past two conference tournaments after having placed fifth last year.

The Cobbers finish their season at the .500 mark with a

7-7 overall record. St. John's loses for the second time in the tournament and ends their season with a 7-10 record.

The last time the teams met, St. John's rattled off all three doubles wins on their way to the 8-1 win. On Saturday, Concordia was able to take two of the three doubles matches and head to the singles competition with a 2-1 advantage. The newly appointed No. 1 doubles team of Jordy Kamerling and Paul Tuchscherer outlasted their opponents 9-8 in one of the most intense matches in the entire tournament.

The No. 3 doubles team of William Wischer and Eric Torres won perhaps the most pivotal match of the day as they edged their opponent 9-8 as well.

In singles play, Kamerling set the tone with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Steve Tacl. The last time the two players met, Tacl overcame Kamerling in a super-set tie-breaker.

Tuchscherer added a singles win to go along with his win in doubles play as he claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.

Ryan Smith added the final Cobber victory. Smith beat Curtis Horton in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
