Match Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/25/09)-- It was a day of frustration for the Cobbers against Bethel on Saturday. Concordia dropped all nine matches and lost 9-0 to the Royals.

CC is now 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the MIAC. The Royals continue their quest for the top three in the league standings and improve to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference. BU has now won three straight matches and six of their last seven.

The No.1 singles match was a microcosm for how the day went for the Cobbers. Concordia's Matt Edin cruised to a first set win at 6-0. He appeared to be headed for a straight set win as he was up 4-2 in the second set. Unfortunately the match turned in the seventh game of the second set and Edin lost 10-8 in the super-set tiebreaker.

The Cobbers were playing without No.3 singles player Kirby Johnson who had to sit out the match with an ankle injury. That forced head coach Troy Hanestad to bump everyone else up a position and scramble two of the three doubles tandems.

That match was the closest singles match of the day for Concordia. Senior Arnie Andreasen lost in a tiebreaker in the second set at No.5 singles after falling 6-1 in the first set. It looked as if Andreasen had the momentum in the match and it would have gone to the wire had he been able to come up with the win in the second set.

Concordia will finish off their season on Monday, Apr. 27 when they play at St. Olaf at 3 p.m.
