(4/19/09)-- There were many factors that played a part in Concordia's 8-1 loss to regionally ranked Carleton in Moorhead on Sunday. The Cobbers were playing their second straight conference match in less than 18 hours and were trying to recover from their long layoff due to the flood in the F-M area. Unfortunately the biggest factor was the skill of the Knights as they upped their conference record to 4-1 on the season. Their only loss came at the hands of national powerhouse Gustavus. For Concordia, the loss pushes them underneath the .500 mark for the season. CC is now 6-7 overall and 2-5 in the MIAC. The highlight of the match for the Cobbers came at No.4 singles where Jordan Swanson won in straight sets. The win snapped a two-match losing slide for Swanson and gets him to seven wins on the season. That ties his total for all of last season. The closest other singles match for the Cobbers came at No.1 singles where Matt Edin lost a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 decision. The loss ended a six-match winning streak for Edin. It was only his third of the season and he falls to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. In doubles play, Concordia's No.3 tandem of Arnie Andreasen and David Bloomquist lost a tight 9-7 decision in the closest match in doubles play on the day. Concordia will continue their sprint towards the end of the 2009 regular season when they host NDSU's club team on Thurs., Apr. 23 at 5 p.m.
