Match Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/17/09)-- Concordia rolled their way through their doubles matches with St. John's on Friday, claiming two of the three bouts and grabbing a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Unfortunately the Cobbers had to drag their cart back into the garage on the axles as they had their wheels come off in singles play, winning only one match.

The singles play pushed Concordia to a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Johnnies. It marks the second straight season that CC has lost by a 6-3 margin to SJU. The Cobbers are now 5-6 in all matches and 1-4 in league play. St. John's moves to 7-5 overall and jumps into second place in the MIAC with a 3-1 conference record.

The Cobbers, playing in their first match in 27 days, jumped out to a 2-1 lead behind doubles wins from the No.1 doubles team of Matt Edin and Kerby Johnson and the No.2 tandem of Chad Smith and Jordan Swanson. Edin and Johnson won 8-4 to grab their team-leading fifth doubles win of the year. They have now won three straight matches. Smith and Johnson earned an 8-3 win to also their third consecutive victory.

That would be all of the sunshine for Concordia on the day as the weather went from warm and sunny to cold and overcast. As the temperature fell so did the Cobber's win total. CC showed the effects of not having played in almost a month as they were run out of their singles matches. Only Edin could come up with a win. He won 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 at No.1 singles to record his team-leading seventh singles victory of the year. He has won five straight singles matches.

Concordia will have two chances to get back into the groove. The Cobbers will host St. Mary's on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 5 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo and then turn around and play Carleton on Sunday, Apr. 19 at the Concordia outdoor courts.
