(2/14/09)-- It was business as usual for the Cobber men's team against No.9-ranked Gustavus on Saturday. Concordia lost all nine matches and fell to the national powerhouse Gusties in Fargo. Concordia did manage to put up good numbers in all three doubles matches and came away with some stellar play in singles but in the end the Gusties tennis dominance over the MIAC continued as they won their conference opening match of the year. The Cobbers dropped their 11th straight season opener with many of those losses coming to Gustavus. Concordia lost all three doubles matches by identical 8-3 scores. CC's No.1 doubles team of Matt Edin and Kirby Johnson continued to get better as a tandem but ended up losing 8-3. In singles play sophomore Jordan Swanson won the most games in a single set as he lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Edin and No.5 singles player Justin LeBeaux dropped 6-2, 6-2 matches and Johnson and No. 2 singles player Chad Smith lost by identical 6-0, 6-2 scores. Concordia will look to rebound when they host St. Thomas on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 a.m. in Olson Forum.
