Match Recap:

WINONA, Minn. (3/09/08)-- Concordia was one step behind the entire morning and lost to St. Mary's 8-1 on Sunday in Winona. The defeat ends a two-match winning streak for the Cobbers. CC entered the match having won four of their previous five matches after going 3-1 in Florida.

The loss drops Concordia below the .500 mark on the season. CC is now 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC. The Cardinals win for the second straight match and for the third time in the past four matches and move to 3-4 in all matches. The victory is the first league win for SMU who improve to 1-3 in the conference.

The Cobbers were playing without freshman Jordan Swanson, who is the team's No.4 singles player. That moved pushed head coach Troy Hanestad to shuffle his lineup and play two doubles teams that have never played together on the year. CC lost both matches and also lost the No.1 doubles tilt to head into singles play down 3-0.

The singles matches wouldn't be any better as Concordia dropped five of the six bouts with the lone win coming because of an injury. The Cobbers once again had to mix up the bottom portion of the squad to compensate for the depleted lineup. The result was that SMU was able to post a more convincing win by taking all three of the matches from at No.4,5 and 6 singles.

Freshman Matt Edin scored the only win for the Cobbers on the day. He won his first set at No.2 singles 6-1 before his opponent had to retire. Edin pushes his overall singles record above the .500 mark on the year. He is now 6-5 on the season.

Concordia will hope to get in the win column in conference play when they host St. Olaf on Sunday, Mar. 16 at 8 a.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
