Match Recap:

ORLANDO, Fla. (2/28/08)-- Concordia finished off its Florida trip by gritting out a 6-3 win over NCAA DII University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Thursday. The win helped the Cobbers cap their spring trip record at 3-1 and brings their overall season mark to 5-5.

The victory over UPR was described by CC head coach Troy Hanestad as "our best win of the season. We used a tough mental game to edge out a very good opponent."

Concordia started the match by winning two of the three doubles bouts. The newly-paired No.1 singles tandem of Wills Wischer and Kirby Johnson improved to 2-0 as they cruised to an 8-2 victory. The all new freshman doubles pair of Jordan Swanson and Matt Edin battled to an 8-5 win at the No.2 spot.

Edin then won his No.2 singles match in the third set to bring his record in singles play in Florida to 3-1. He is now 5-5 overall on the season.

Other singles winners for the Cobbers included Wischer, Swanson and Pete Zender. Wischer earned his team-leading seventh win of the season and is now 7-2 on the year and has won four straight singles bouts. Zender won his second straight match and has now won three of his last five matches in singles play.

Concordia will head back north and face St. Mary's in Winona on Sunday, Mar. 9 at 9:30 a.m.
