Match Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/17/08)-- After dropping four straight matches, Concordia returned to the winning side of the ledger as they bolted past UM-Morris 7-0 in Moorhead on Sunday. Peter Zender picked up two wins for the Cobbers, while the Cougars had to default the No.6 singles and No. 2 doubles matches.

The win pushes Concordia's overall season record to 2-4 on the year. The Cobbers opened the year with a 9-0 win over Northwestern (Minn.) but had then dropped four straight matches.

The loss for the Cougars came in their opening competition of the season. They are now 0-1 on the year.

The team match started with singles play and Concordia wasted little time taking control. Cobber head coach Troy Hanestad held No.1 singles player Wills Wischer and then bumped everyone else up one spot. Matt Edin, playing at No.1 singles for the first time in his collegiate career, scored a 6-0, 6-0 win to earn his second singles victory of the year.

The rest of the singles competition wasn't close as CC lost only two games in the final four singles matches. Jordan Swanson and Zender picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins and Kirby Johnson and Arnie Andreasen posted 6-1, 6-0 victories. Johnson's win at No.2 singles evens his season record at 3-3. He is now tied with Wischer for most singles wins on the year.

In doubles play, Zender teamed with freshman David Bloomquist to win 8-0. It was Bloomquist's first collegiate match. Andre Genereux then partnered with Wischer at No.1 doubles and also came away with a 1-0 victory.

The Cobbers will head south for their spring break trip on Saturday. Concordia will play four matches in Orlando, Fla., beginning on Feb. 24.
