Match Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/1/08)-- February came in like a spiny porcupine for Concordia as they lost 7-2 to UW-Eau Claire on the first of the month in Sartell, Minn.

The loss drops the Cobbers' season record to 1-1. CC won their opener 9-0 over Northwestern. The Bluegolds, who also posted a 9-0 victory over Northwestern in their season opener, move to 2-0 on the year.

The two wins for Concordia came courtesy of the racquet of sophomore Kirby Johnson. Johnson won his No.3 singles match 6-4, 6-1 and then teamed with freshman Jordan Swanson to win 8-4 at the No.2 doubles spot. Johnson remains perfect on the season. He is 2-0 in singles play and he and Swanson are also 2-0 in doubles.

The Cobbers could never find their rhythm as they lost two of the three doubles matches and then fell behind in all but the one singles match.

Concordia will stay on the road on Saturday. The Cobbers will play St. Scholastica and St. Cloud State at Gold's Gym in Sartell. CC will square off against the Saints at 1 p.m. and then complete the doubleheader by facing the Huskies at 4 p.m.
