Match Recap:

SARTELL, Minn. (3/10/07)-- The Cobbers came back from almost a full month away from competitive tennis in style as they cruised past St. Mary's 7-2 in Sartell, Minn. on Saturday.

Concordia won all three doubles matches to start the match as they stopped their three-match losing streak. CC is now 2-4 in doubles matches this season. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 1-5.

The Concordia doubles teams set the tone in the match as they grinded out three victories. Like most of the nine matches in the competition, all three doubles bouts were nip-and-tuck affairs that were settled by three or fewer games.

The Cobber No.1 tandem of Jordy Kamerling and Paul Tuchscherer won their match 8-5 to even their season record at 3-3. William Wischer and Ryan Smith responded with a similar 8-5 victory. The match that might have turned the entire result into a much tighter affair came at No.3 doubles where Concordia's twosome of Kirby Johnson and David Nygaard captured a 9-7 win in a match that could have gone either way. For Johnson and Nygaard it was their first collegiate doubles win.

Heading into singles play with a superior 3-0 lead, Concordia won all of the top four singles matches to put the team match away. Kamerling came away with the largest margin of victory. His 6-0, 6-2 win upped his season record to 3-3.

Wischer, Tuchscherer and Smith also posted straight-set victories. All three matches were close affairs with the Cobbers pulling away in the end. Tuchscherer won 6-3, 7-5 at No.3 singles to record his team-leading fourth win of the season.

Concordia will travel south for a two-match road trip next weekend. The Cobbers will play at St. Olaf on Saturday, Mar. 17 at 2 p.m. and then play non-conference opponent Martin Luther on Sunday, Mar. 18 at 11 a.m. at Gustavus.
